Enjoy time with your kids in the last weeks of term - or be patient enough until November 2022 - and get into the spirit of the World Cup!
The World Cup tournament can be much more just about football. Take the opportunity with the kids to enjoy activities which will not only encourage talk about the game, but also about the different countries and continents taking part (language, currency, food, best know export etc), flag designs, country name spellings (and meanings) and many other discussions arising from the whistle-stop history tour via the quiz.

- Version 1 is 1 page, and will most likely require research for a few of the questions - good for a really challenging task! (They could always write their best guess)
-Version 2 has the questions more spaced out over two pages and also has an answer bank for kids to choose their answers from (although a couple of questions may still need some research :) )
With any of these activities, why not get the kids to also make their predictions for the World Cup 2022 Winners and Runners up? Maybe get a wall chart up as well :)
There are four activity files altogether, plus three answer files.
Enjoy!

The second activity is an anagrams activity. The kids need to rearrange the letters of the words to get the dinosaur name. ‘carpet riots’ anyone?? (Answer file included)

You must know a fan or two of the brilliant Tom Gates series…
Treat them to this 36-word wordsearch puzzle for one of the books: Genius Ideas (mostly).
Why are wordsearches so great? They encourage pattern recognition, reinforce spellings, encourage discussion, and are a great practice for drawing lines!
TWELVE quality wordsearch puzzles (in a zip file) based on key terms from six Roald Dahl Books:
Fantastic Mr Fox;
George’s Marvellous Medicine;
James and the Giant Peach;
Matilda;
The Magic Finger;
The Twits.
10-word and 30-word wordsearches for each story. (Simple differentiation / use depending on the time available.)
These were used with Year / Grade 5 children when they were reading Roald Dahl stories and they thoroughly enjoyed them (and older (or younger!) children will enjoy them too.) These were used in class as a starter, to support their recollection of events in the books, as well as to reinforce spellings. They were also used with students as part of World Book Day celebrations and as part of school library sessions to promote the love of reading.
Prepare now for celebrating the Fourth of July with your students and children. Or use it to simply spread the awareness of the history of the famous date and the way the day is celebrated.
This listing contains a quality 3 - activity sheet with a wordsearch, fill the blanks and 10 Independence Day-themed questions. Students / children will likely need to conduct some research for at least some of these questions!
Also included is the wordsearch on its own if you prefer it as well as the answer sheet for all activities.
This quiz can be used as a comprehension exercise where children watch the film “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” and then answer as many questions correctly as they can.
The adjusted / differentiated activity can be that the film is watched in two halves (or smaller chunks) to give children less to remember all at once and more of a chance to get all 18 questions correct!
This activity can also be an opportunity to practice spellings, learn something new (what exactly is a barnacle?) and most importantly, have fun! You can also encourage children to come up with their own questions to test others.
This is a suitable task for Grade 4 upwards (approximately 8+ years) and FYI the film has a PG rating. Answer sheet is included.
If not used for skills practice, just save it for a treat or a rainy day!
This pack contains 14 pages of activities.
The first is a 2-page activity, for which the kids need to name, trace and then design (colouring, painting, glittering etc) each of the 11 featured dinosaurs (grey silhouettes). There is a table of names on page 2 which the kids can use to help them name the dinos. A file with the dinosaur silhouettes and their names is included.
The next 11 sheets are the individual dinosaurs enlarged on A4 files, with instructions suggesting that after naming and tracing the dinosaurs, they should get creative and colour and decorate, before writing 3 facts about the dinosaur. Surely these would make for a great wall display.
The last activity is a wonderful anagrams activity. The kids need to read the (often strange) set of words and then rearrange the letters to figure out the name of the dinosaur. ‘carpet riots’ anyone? (Answer file included)
